Com. Knight thanked Labor Council for the opportunity to speak at the Annual General Meeting and advised that the purpose of his address was to launch the new Code of Labour Practice for Production of Goods Licensed by the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and the Sydney Paralympic Organising Committee. In accordance with the goal of the Olympic Movement to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sports practised without discrimination, SOCOG/SPOC recognises its responsibilities to consumers for the quality of products produced under its licensing arrangements.
The Secretary, Com. P. Sams, in thanking the Minister for his attendance and address to Council said the Labor Council remained committed to ensuring the Sydney Olympics were staged with maximum co-operation between Unions and the Government. This commitment emanated from our support in the early 90's for Sydney's bid. Our bona fides have been proven to date with major projects such as the showground and stadium progressing on time and on budget.
Council looked forward to working with the Minister and the New South Wales Government to showcase Sydney and New South Wales industrial relations to the rest of the world.
