MEETING HELD 11TH DECEMBER, 1997 IN THE

MOTION FOR THE SALE OF PROPERTY AT 377 SUSSEX STREET, SYDNEY:-
The Secretary, Com. P. Sams, moved a Motion in the following
terms:
"That the Labor Council property located at 377 Sussex Street, Sydney, be
sold on terms substantially set out in the circular to affiliates, No.823/97
dated November 10, 1997."
Com. B. Schmidt seconded and spoke to the motion.
Com. B. Coombes spoke against the motion.
Com. S. Moait spoke to the motion.
The mover, Com. P. Sams, spoke in reply.
The Motion was CARRIED in accordance with the rules.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:-
1. The Secretary, Com. P. Sams, advised all affiliates that in
response to a recent Labor Council delegation to Israel, a delegation from the
Histadrut General Federation of Labour in Israel would be arriving next week.
The main purpose of this reciprocal delegation was to sign an Agreement of
Friendship between the Labor Council of New South Wales, the Histadrut General
Federation of Labour in Israel and the Jerusalem Labour Council, Tel Aviv
Labour Council, Haifa Labour Council. The agreement will lay a firm foundation
for the establishment of relations based on cooperation, brotherhood,
fraternity and understanding between these organisations. In order to
strengthen the ties of friendship and the exchange of information and
knowledge, the two organisations would exchange experiences and mutual
information with regard to unions, exchange delegations and groups at all
levels and foster the understanding and friendship between the organisations
and the people of Israel and New South Wales.
2. The Secretary, Com. P. Sams, advised all affiliates that nominations for
persons to receive a Labor Council Scroll of Honour should be forwarded to the
Labor Council by no later than close of business on Wednesday, January 28,
1998. Nominations should provide all relevant details of the nominee to be
included on the Scroll.
3. The Secretary, Com. P, Sams, advised all affiliates that, in accordance with
Rule 45(f), a meeting of the Labor Council would be held on Thursday, January
22, 1998 commencing at 6.00 p.m. in the Trades Hall Auditorium, 4 Goulburn
Street, Sydney. The meeting would consider and, if thought fit, approve the
following proposal:
"That the Labor Council property located at 377-383 Sussex Street, Sydney,
be sold on terms substantially set out in the circular to affiliates, number
C823/97, dated November 10, 1997."
4. President, Com. J. Whelan, and Secretary, Com. P. Sams, wished all
affiliates and their families the very best for a happy and safe holiday
season.
