The Changing Roles of Public Sector Unionism
By Eve Anderson, Gerard Griffin, Julian Teicher
The character of Australian federal public service unions has changed, from in-house staff associations to constituents of the broader union movement.
The extent to which adopted by the CPSU are part of the broader union movement or a reaction to changes in public sector administration are investigated by the authors. The changes seem to have been in step with broader union movement strategies. Also New Public Sector Management policies have imposed particular pressures to the extent that the union is struggling to survive. The impact of union renewal strategies, and the adoption of the organising model to underpin the strategies, remain uncertain.
