General Overview:
This position will support the advancement of the industrial, political and social standing of its 2800 members.
Experience as an industrial officer with negotiation and bargaining skills is essential for this role. The successful appointee will have the capability to assist and provide guidance to a new team across all areas of industrial advocacy and organising.
The role requires tenacity with the capability to be able to implement a strategy across a range of issues and tasks as well as being able to adapt as the situation requires.
Job Description:
The industrial officer/negotiator/organiser will work to:
1. Provide advice and be actively involved in the full range of employee and industrial relations issues including:
Industrial disputes
Bargaining
Negotiations
Organising
Discrimination in employment
Workplace health and safety
Superannuation
Work cover
Work and family
Equal opportunity
2. Providing advice and support to members on a variety of issues and processes, including the production of regular industrial updates;
3. Provide specialist advisory services to the Union through the development of oral and written submissions, briefings and reports on contemporary industrial and fire industry issues;
4. Monitor trends and developments in firefighting and industrial relations within Victoria, and analysing and reporting on the implications of these for Victorian Firefighters;
5. Providing high level research and analysis of issues relevant to firefighters and their union;
6. Preparing reports and briefing papers for the Branch Secretary and Branch Committee of Management on a range of issues relating to State and Federal Industrial and other relevant legislation;
7. Develop and maintain industrial/research database.
Essential Experience: & Qualifications:
* Experience as an industrial officer/negotiator with the capability to assist and develop other team members;
* The ability to represent the UFU in a range of forums and high level negotiations;
* The ability to work independently and in a team environment as the situation determines;
* Highly developed written and oral communication skills;
* The ability to research and present high quality submissions and reports;
* Strong time management skills with the capability to deal with a range of situations and issues efficiently and effectively.
Desired Experience: & Qualifications:
Industrial and research skills including case preparation and presentation to various tribunals;
Knowledge of industrial relations law and practice;
Sound analytical skills.
