12 September 2001 Circular To: All affiliatesRE: Organising Campaign in Orange
Dear Colleague,
At the last meeting of the Organising Committee, Labor Council put forward a strategy to assist unions and activists in organising and campaigning in rural areas. The reason for this rural focus is the overwhelming response of activists who attended the Sky Channel broadcast on workers compensation. Labor Council, through the Organising Committee, has decided to target two areas commencing with Orange, and if this is effective, we will develop a rural organising calendar with affiliates for 2002. Orange has been selected as it has established an activists committee and several of the unions have activists and local organisers on this committee. The Labor Council and the Orange Activists Committee will be arranging for a union activity week in Orange commencing Tuesday the 30th October 2001. The Wednesday will be the Labor Council's 3rd Big Lunch Break to be held this time at Robertson Park in Orange. A Trivia Fundraiser will also be held in the evening. The proceeds will go to the Orange Community for a project/charity. Labor Council is asking all Unions to take a table, as the evening will provide all union activists with the opportunity to meet Union Secretaries, and other local members and activists.
Yours fraternally
John Robertson Secretary
