Australian Western Sahara Association Circulars

C513/01

12 September 2001

Circular To: All Affiliates

RE: Australian Western Sahara Association

Dear Colleague,

Attached is a letter from the Australian Western Sahara Association, which was read at last week's Labor Council meeting.

As the Association notes in its letter, it is dependent upon membership fees and donations to carry out its work in securing independence for the Saharawi people. This year the Association is raising funds so that it can bring a Saharawi woman to Australia on a speaking tour to raise awareness of this issue and to gather support for Western Sahara's struggle for self-determination.

Labor Council urges affiliates to consider making a donation to the Association to allow this speaking tour to take place. Affiliates are also asked to consider joining the Association and publicising the Association's work amongst their members.

Yours fraternally

Alison Peters

Deputy Assistant Secretary, Community Affairs
